As has been mentioned in many recent reports, the capabilities for roaming service has become extremely overpriced. This is unfeasible, as many persons feel the need to communicate while overseas. The European Commission and the GSMA have recently engaged in a heated battle, arguing whether it is necessary for prices to be capped. The European Commission has enforced regulation laws across the EU, requesting for all rates to be dropped considerably.
The GSMA opposes this proposal, suggesting that cellular operators cannot afford to decrease their prices. According to the GSMA, which represents cellular operators abroad, capping roaming charges will not function to assist the industry, as it has had little effect in its earlier instances.
European Telecommunications Commissioner Viviane Reding has obligated operators to take action on her requests, before she incites the legal procedures. According to her research, roaming charges are over 10 xs higher than those employed in-house.
