Dog-Tired: Getting Through the First Night Home With Your New Puppy

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:52 pm

Opinions vary over the best place for your dog to sleep. The best advice: start a puppy off in the room you eventually want him to sleep in.

Want to let your new puppy sleep in your bed? Lots of people do, but be warned: This will very quickly become a habit! If Fido gets to sleep with you as a new puppy, plan on having Fido in your bed for life (unless, of course, you want to retrain a grown adult dog!).

Many experts recommend that your puppy sleep in a crate. For a puppy, a crate really is the best sleeping place because it dramatically reduces house-training problems and destructive chewing until your puppy has grown into a dependable adult.

Your little guy is going to be terrified the first few nights — he’s missing his mother and siblings, and he hasn’t bonded yet with you. So, yes, he’s going to cry and whine, and there’s a good chance neither one of you will get much sleep for a few nights! One solultion is to try putting his crate next to your bed so you can put your fingers into his crate to calm and soothe him.

Another good place for your dog’s bed is the kitchen because it’s quiet at night. A basement is also a good place (if it’s not too cold), especially if your puppy is going to grow into a large dog!

Wherever you decide will be the sleeping place for your puppy, be sure it’s safe, comfortable, and warm, and that it’s not near any drafts.

Please don’t yell at your new puppy when you get tired and cranky and he’s whining in the middle of the night. Be calm, gentle, and reassuring with him as he bonds with you and adjusts to his new sleeping arrangement, and soon you’ll both be sleeping through the night. Zzzzzzzzz.

Make the Media Your Friend

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:49 pm

The media (newspaper, radio, television) can be of enormous help to the small and home based business. So, it is very important that you develop a relationship with them.

When you first start your business, inform your local newspaper by using a press release that you are starting a new business. Almost all newspapers have a section which announces new businesses. So check out that section, call the newspaper and ask who you would send your release to and in what format they want the information.

When your business is doing something special for the community be sure to inform the media. Newspapers and radio stations love to get local stories. Just be sure it is newsworthy, and don’t overuse it. Always check to see who to send your information to and what format they need. Never blindly send out a release.

Are there trade magazines in your business area? If so, do up a release on your new business. Or if you are an existing business, send a press release on a new product or service.

Another way to work with the media is to write a column. Go to a local paper, no matter how small, and offer to write a column on your area of expertise or on business in general. Don’t ask to be paid for it, and promise not to promote your company. You won’t need to – your byline, words (and maybe even photograph) will do that.

Just recently we did a review for a former newspaper publisher on his book on how to write a press release and generally dealing with the media. He’s promised us a finished copy. Once we get it and re-read it, we’ll let you know more.

So develop a relationship with the media, and watch your business soar.

3 Proven Ways To Build Self-Esteem

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 8:08 pm

When someone thinks of a person with self-esteem most people think of someone who has a positive attitude. While someone who generally has self-esteem could have a positive attitude, this is not what I am referring to.

Having self-esteem is when you have a high regard for yourself, when you value who you are. In other words, having self-esteem is when you have a strong belief and respect for yourself.

If you find yourself down a lot and have a hard time feeling good, you may be dealing with low self-esteem. Below you will find 3 ways to build your self esteem.

Give credit where credit is do: When you accomplish a particular task give yourself credit for doing something successfully. It may be something as small as thanking someone for something. That is a success because you acknowledge something that someone has done for you. So, give yourself credit for the things you do. I bet if you really thought about it, you do a lot of successful things throughout the day. Start giving yourself credit for that.

Say good things to yourself: When you accidentally drop or spill something, what are the first words out of your mouth? If the words dummy, idiot, stupid, or any other negative words come out of your mouth, try not reacting to the situation. Take a deep breath and move on knowing we all have accidents. The point here is not to react to the situation. Give yourself a break, think good thoughts about yourself, and don’t forget to laugh.

Accept the good in you: Just like giving yourself credit for the success you have each day, acknowledge the things you know how to do well. There are things you can do better than anyone. If you gave it some thought you can come up with a number of things you do well. What are some of the things you do well? Think about it, and when you do, write them down. So, the next time you are feeling down go back to the list you made and accept the good in you.

Building your self-esteem is going to help you take bigger risks and have a more fulfilling life. With a high self-esteem, you can accomplish anything. You will find yourself sticking with your goals, and taking on any challenge that comes your way. Building self-esteem does take time; however, anything that is going to help you live your life to the fullest is worth it. Try finding someone who can help you along the way, a friend, a mentor, or even a coach. You can do it, I know you can!
